Design notes & limitations. Population-based cohort with a seronegative comparator group (582 CHIK- vs 512 CHIK+), interviewed on average 2 years after infection (range 15-34 months, median 23.7). One of the few post-infectious cohorts with a true unexposed control drawn from the same population, allowing attributable-fraction estimation (~60% of polyarthralgia attributable to CHIKV). Ascertainment was retrospective/serological, so acute-phase data are absent.
