Chicago adolescent post-mononucleosis cohort (Katz)

Measures: Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME-CFS caseness

Strong prospective inception cohort in adolescents with laboratory-confirmed acute EBV mononucleosis and structured re-screening for CFS caseness at fixed timepoints. Shows a declining post-infective CFS rate over two years (13% -> 7% -> 4%), one of the cleanest demonstrations of resolving post-viral fatigue.

London post-glandular-fever fatigue cohort (White)

Landmark prospective inception cohort with an active comparison group (ordinary URTI), showing that an acute post-infective fatigue syndrome is markedly more common after glandular fever than after a routine URTI. A chronic fatigue syndrome persisted in a minority (~9-10%) at 6 months. Establishes specificity of the trigger, not just occurrence.
